I had an AMEX card (my only card) and I had personal problems and difficulties overseas, so I fixed my problems and came back and now I have a new good job. But I accumulated a lot of money in my AMEX and started to fall behind... i had like 6K and as soon as I got back to the states I paid 2K. So now My only debt is 4K.
Yesterday I get home and find messages in my answering machine, turns out that my AMEX has been canceled, and they have passed the debt to a company named Creditwide or something like that... I called them and they treated me so bad.. they were bullies and they kept saying that i have to find a way to pay my 4K debt quickly... I'm intending to pay it but within the next 6 months and they told me that they can not set any plan of payments because they're a not a collection agency... they're pusching me to make a loan but i have tried before abd been denied one.... so i have no idea what to do...
a friend of mine says that these people are hired just to harrass me and to make me pay and he advice me that in the mean time to keep doing my payments to AMEX.
I don't know what to do. There's no way I can pay the 4K right away. And i don't want to make a loan, i'm going little by little back to normal, paying my bills on time and I just have the 4K ONLY DEBT and i don't even care if I can't use the AMEX anymore... I just want to get rid of that and not have any CC
any comments?"
credit_card_collector said: "I know you said you don't want any credit card but have you considered getting a card from another company and do a balance transfer. You could then eliminate your AMEX and not have to deal with them anymore if your having problems with them. This is in no way a plug (because I hate Chase) but I have to say now that I have had that card for a while they have been great other then my initial problems (some here may remember my Chase woes) now I hate MBNA much more :D But Chase does have 0% interest for balance transfers until 2007 promotion on most of their mid range to premium cards, sounds like your trying to pay down but also you get that 0% until 2007 for purchases and even cash advances (directly deposited to your checking account) just an idea. I hope you work out your AMEX problems but what is the problem, if you have been making your payments on time I don’t understand why they are so upset. They should love taking the interest from you. Are you over the balance limit? Is it a charge your have run up and are now making partials?"

as far as I know.. i never knew my limit with AMEX because it just grows as it goes depending on your payments and stuff... my debt was big because of my dog's medical expenses... he had a bad accident and i tried to save him he went for surgery but died eventually... that was like 3K and that I was dragging for a while.
Now the question is.... would I be able to apply for a new card even though my AMEX is cancelled??? maybe my credit is bad now... but as fas as I know.. i have all my income budgeted and I'll be paying this off in 6 months.
Today I got another call from these people... and it ended up sort of funny 'cause the girl got frustrated and literally hung up on me.
I was saying that I have ZERo dollars right now but i was gonna be submitting payments still to AMEX and she said.... when do you wanna be served? and I said whenever! because if you tale me to court for 4K , I'll go to the judge and we'll settle this one with installments anyway... and she said... don't you care about fees and interest? and I said... well i'll pay them too...and I said... if you guys were able to set me up with a payment plan ... and she said "we're not a collection agency" and I also said...we'll I also can't do anything until I get something official by from you by mail....
she hung up after that"

Well number one go to https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp and find out your credit score, this site allows you one free report from each of the three agencies once per calendar year. If your credit score is anything over a 600 (about) you should have no problems getting even premium cards with no annual fees. As far as the six months payoff I just got a Household bank acceptance letter in the mail today, btw Household bank is an easy card to get, and it offers 0% interest on balance transfers and purchases for the first 12 calendar months of your card account and only 11.24% after that and no annual, program, setup or other fees, maybe this card would work to get the monkey off of your back (monkey being AMEX) the card would have checks in the welcome kit and you could probably just give them the check info over the phone or overnight it to them, monkey would be gone in no time. :D

Good luck. :)"
