could someone tell me where to start...could someone tell me where to start...
lmn396wash said: "hi all,
i'm brand new and i've been looking at the discussions and my head is swimming!
can someone just get me pointed in the right direction? like where to start? i know it starts with letters but is there a standard form letter everyone uses? if so, would you be willing to share it? is there a specific place on here that has a crash course for "CREDIT REPAIR FOR DUMMIES" or anything?
i'm kinda pressed for time. my husband and i would like to get a house by april because the landlord is selling this house and not sure if we can stay if a new owner comes in. so if anyone could give me a quick rundown on where to start that would be great.
thanks."
rapidanian said: "You don't give a lot of information about your situation. It starts with letters and it involves waiting. If you want quicker results you could probably pay someone somewhere who will promise the moon, but I'd rather do it myself. A lot depends on how many derogatories, public records, current scores, utilization, and depth you have. Keep reading, think of this process as a mission and if you are like others here it will become an obsession LOL."
lmn396wash said: "well quick run down:
where to start...credit scores are 540-560 for both husband & i.
have 6 judgements and it looks like there are duplicates; have about 12 derog collection accounts. we had a bankruptcy but it is now off. i have corrected names & addresses & ssn with experian and i don't know if they contact the other 2.
a lot of this stuff is from 1999, 2000 & 2001. i know this stays on for 7 years which really stinks...people fall on hard times and like i used to tell the creditors: do you think if i had the money i would want to hear from you...i would pay it. it's not that we are trying to rip anybody off it's called survival and a whole lot of BAD Luck..
i also tried this thief he wanted $1500 and swore he would clear up the credit. he was referred to me by this idiot from a mortgage company. well needless to say when you are desperate...thankfully i only gave him a total of $300. and he didn't do a damn thing...i wasn't about to pay him another dime until i saw some action...never did...so i figured let me give it a shot...i don't mind the work involved i just want quick results.
thanks"

read read read
If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to ask.
If you post in credit repair forums, you probably get more feedback also.
EX won't talk to the other 2. You have to dispute personal info and debt accounts separately.
In my personal opinion, you can get just as good of results (probably even better) if you clean your CRs on your own."
lmn396wash said: "i'm not familiar with all the initials...what's CR? credit reporting agencies?"
TScott said: "CR-credit report
CRA-credit reporting agency
somewhere on this board it lists ALL of the definitions for the abbreviations.
I'll see if I can find it..........it's like learning a new language. ha ha"

DonM said: "This is a timely process and normal results take a lot longer than 3 months. Dont be discouraged if this takes a year or more to repair. Alot of the process is waiting for responses. But it has been done in a few months if you have the cash to pay for deletions in some cases."
lmn396wash said: "yeah, kinda figured that. thanks for the info...i wish i had about 10K i could pay off all that crap!!!"
DonM said: "But yiu have to start somewhere. It is Not going to go away unless YOU take steps toward repairing.
I have been at a standstill for a few months. I couldnt go any further but I kept reading and strategizing. Now things are starting to look up for me.
As others have said before, read, read, read, and educate yourself first. The worst thing to do is to try to procede and not know the consequences of your actions. ASK A LOT OF QUESTIONS TOO!!
If you're not sure of an answer, ask to break it down in baby steps. There are several people here that will try to help as best they can, also visit www.creditboards.com too..
We are or were in the same boat as you. If we werent, we wouldnt be here !!!!"
lmn396wash said: "this really is a daunting task. i've tried awhile ago but didn't have the stamina to follow through. i guess if you want something bad enough you will do it!
i did start by contacting experian about the lien that's 11 years old. so i am waiting to see how the dispute goes.
i did order my 3 reports that were free.
for anyone out there if you do not know you can get your 3 reports once a year for free! i went to www.transunion.com and search the site and there will be a phone # that's automated. it takes about 2 weeks to receive them.
i got a secured credit card from premier bank and they have a extra service called credit manager for i think 7.99 per mo. i can get a report once a month from experian for free. i've been keeping it on time for the last 7 months and i believe my score went up a little. hey i'll take it...
thanks everyone for your support. we are not bad people just people who fell on hard times...and it follows you forever."
TScott said: "Only problem with the free reports is when you dispute, it gives the CRAs an additional 15 days to respond (45 days total).
With a regular report, they only have 30 days.
The way I see it is if you give them more time, it will lessen your chances of getting things deleted."
lmn396wash said: "really? i filed w/experian on-line; will that still take up to 45 days?"
TScott said: "If it was through the free report it will.
With EX, when you log in to check the status of your dispute, it should tell you when the results are due."
