They must also provide you with the name, address and phone number of the OC or CA that certified the accuracy of the information."

In order to validate the debt they either need a signed judgement, or a presentment of the account and general ledger statement signed and dated by the party responsible for maintaining the account. A copy of the original contract is not sufficient to validate the debt. It is very unlikely that they will properly validate the debt. They will probably send something which is not legal validation. They will have 30 days from the date they recieved your dispute. If you receive one of these wrongful validation letters, wait until there are only 10 days left on the original 30 days, and send them another certified letter stating: Your alleged validation is not sufficient to show that I am a debtor to that creditor. They will have insufficient time to check it out, and they must remove it from your file. The Fair Debt Collections Act is on your side in this. I say this because one of the bullet points in the letter seems to indicate that you can simply"report identity theft" as a method to remove negative credit and that sounds misleading if not dangerously illegal. Curt, please explain this if you don't mind, especially since you're attempting to sell something on a forum which offers free advice."
