When they called him, they got his credit card info and such. (I know.... I told him big mistake) Anyway now they are billing him $150.00 quartery. He did call and stopped the credit card from being charged. They called him to find out why he isn't paying and he told them he did not subscribe to all of those and wanted to know exactly what he said. They played the taped conversation back to him and it only said that he wanted the two that he ordered not all 10 subscriptions. Can he get out of this in any way? I told him to hold off paying it, but he doesn't want it to go to a collection agency. Any good advice is appreciated."

If they actually played the tape back to him......that would be proof he didn't order all of the mags and they should refund him since it was an error on their part. If they don't comply then consider filing a complaint with the BBB.
Also he may want to call his cc company and see if he can talk to them about unauthorized charges."

If not I would speak to someone above the person he talk to and nicely explain to them he only ordered 2 and that he will be filing a complaint with the BBB and then do so. I would bug the heck out of them and call cc company like TScott says and report unauthorized charges so he could have some paper trail of what he is doing. I don't understand the tape recorder thing saying he wanted 2 subscriptions and not 10 and that wasn't enough to see the error in their ways.

I wouldn't worry about a CA from a magazine company they probably don't even have enough info on him to report it. The would be like BMG or one of those other stupid mail order things reporting, very doubtful. Then I would threaten to sue them if they called again and ignore it."
