Emerge CardEmerge Card
jmrgtr said: "Has anyone run into the same situation with Fleet and Emerge? All I knowabout these sharks, is that my Fleet Access account was sold to these deadbeats. There customer service is outsourced in India, and there main Headquarters is in Columbus GA. I originally had this card with First North American National Bank/Circuit City. Then they sold it to Fleet then Fleet obviously merged with Bank of America. Bank of America then sold it to these clowns I made an online payment of $200 when it was still Fleet at the end May, my due date was June 12th. I had no idea my account was even sold to Emerge. The only way I found out is when I tried to log onto Fleet bill pay because my check never cleared. Fleet directed me to Emerges site, I was like who are these guys? I received no notice about the transfer of accounts from Fleet. I called Emerges customer service number and tried to get an explanation. Every time I talked to a customer service rep I got hung up on! So today 1-27-05 I receive an attempt to collect a pass due amount in the form of a fold post card. The question is. I know CA’S cannot send collection notices out like this but does this also apply to the original creditor? Also if they can’t what can I do about it? Thanks for any responses."

jmrgtr said: "Hi Bob,
Emerge is the new company, Fleet was the old one. No they said it wasn't there fault they never received, the onliine payment when it was still Fleet. The main question was they sent me a debt collection in the form of a fold postcard. I know CA'S can't do this but I was wondering if it applied to the original creditor? What can I do about it if anything if the cant send a debt collection notice on a postcard.
John"

they are a sub of providian
They collect closed, aged and uncollectable accounts.
Their tactics are both rude and illegal when they attempt to collect.
I sent Emerge a DV letter and got no response..
All CRA's had to remove.
make sure you document EVERYTHING when dealing with thoes monkeys."

Which had my personal info on it for all to see and abuse, I also contacted the BBB in GA. I paid them off in full $1250 just to get them out of my hair and I closed the account. If this goes past the due date this time I am going to talk to a lawyer. No one ever get this card under any circumstance. Use the old Monty Python adage “run away, run away”! If they send you an offer in the mail."

I am in almost the exact same position as you. My visa card was originally with FNANB, then BofA, and then Fleet, and now Emerge. I no longer have the ability to make payments online. So I called up this Emerge company and got someone who could barely understand. I had to tell him to close my account like five times so I could go on a reduced APR payment plan like BofA offers. He said Emerge doesn't offer one. WTF? If my account is closed and no longer being used, don't these companies normally put you on a monthly payment plan with a reduced APR? Why do I have to pay a 29% APR on a credit card that is closed? I am going to have to get some legal advice.
These Emerge guys s*ck bad! I could barely understand the guy and he was not speaking right. He kept mumbling. There has got to be some decent person to talk to over there."
jmrgtr said: "Nick,
They are outsourced in India, they actually hung up on me a couple of times. My complaint with the BBB and Banking Commission still stands, becasue they sent me a collection notice on a postcard. I think that violates a privacy law, does anyone know about that? Just pay them off if you can and be done with them. I paid them off over the phone, and it cleared today."

what info was on the postcard, and was it visible without opening it?"
anchorbob said: "Thanks for the warning about these guys. Providian is very bad, really."
jmrgtr said: "The postcard has my account number number on it. It was sealed with only an adheasive. Anyone could have opened it and sealed it back up."
