Does anyone know if I can get a car loan with a credit score of about a 500?

unless you have a boat load of money to put down, the buy here pay here option may be your only option. You can always see if you can prequalify for a car loan thru your bank / credit union.

I heard you can depending if you go to the right place. For example, my friend traded her car in getting about 5K for the car and she got a loan on a 50K vehicle with her credit scores being mid 400's. But then again, her interest rate was over 20%.

Ouch.. I wouldn't even try it. Do you really need a loan at 19% that's going to put you immediately upside down? I would read up on the Credit Repair thread and take a few months to see if you can get that score up.
