Default HSBC deliberately held on time payment to charge late fee

Yes they did and I have proof. I overnighted a payment to them on the 13th. I have the receipt from the USPS that they received it on the 13th. They processed the payment on the 14th and assessed a late fee. B.S.

Anyways, I called them. They said I was late. I said "Here's the tracking number from USPS proving you received the money." They said "Oh. We will remove the late fee."

Illegal. Late. Fees.

Keep an eye on your credit reports to make sure they don't update the late.

If they do send a dispute to the credit reporting agency, may send them copy of the receipt proving you sent payment on time.

Default Credit Card Payment Deadlines

You might read the details where is says what time payments have to be in to be applied for that day. If it was on time, great you have proof with their literature. If it wasn't.... dispute smackdown. The time stamp on the overnight delivery would be the strongest factor.

I won. They ended up crediting it back. They really had no explanation for it.

Let's see, if you overnighted a payment to them on the 13th, that means they would have received the next day, or the 14th. Is some key fact missing here? Are you saying USPS performed beyond expectations and delivered it the same day?

Hmm. Let me try re-writing for clarity. "I overnighted a payment to HSBC that they received on the 13th."

Better?

That sounds like an outright case of deception and lying. It's a good thing that you had proof that they received the payment on time.

I'm sure you aren't the first person they've done this too. I'm glad to hear they removed the charges.
