Default American Express chargeback

A company charged me online for what I considered to be a fraudulent charge. I attempted to chareback with Amex. Amex sided with the vendor. Mortified, I cancelled my account with them.

Have any of you heard similar stories?

That sounds like a case where the credit card company didn't so anything to try and satisfy
you - the customer. That seems like a cocky attitude to take and one that lost your business, too.

That is too bad, you can continue to dispute the id theft, be sure to file a police report and fill out an id theft affidavit at the www.ftc.gov site.

Default It is against my religion to honor anything dishonest. Will be a classic.

I once encountered this scenario years back with a website designer charge. I disputed the account and the credit card company told me under mastercard law they could not reverse the charge. I then canceled my account allowed it to charge off and stated in disputes that it was against my religion to honor anything dishonest. How do you argue that? Since then it has not harmed my credit because all my good accounts trump it. So it doesn't affect my credit but a few points. I will get it deleted once the SOL passes. The bottom line is they send a dispute for to the company and the company has a couple weeks or 30 days to reply with proof. It may be that the proof they supplied was mailed to you. Did you receive the proof they submitted?
